What is Cohousing?

Cohousing communities are old-fashioned neighborhoods created with a little ingenuity. They bring together the value of private homes with the benefits of more sustainable living. That means common facilities and good connections with neighbors. All in all, they stand as innovative answers to today’s environmental and social problems.

In cohousing, all residents actively participate in the design and operation of their own communities. In addition to all the benefits of individual homes, cohousing residents have access to extensive common facilities. At Sunward, our twenty acres include a large Common House (for optional group meals, meetings, socializing, guest housing, and crafts), children’s playgrounds, a ten acre hardwood forest with trails and historic barn, gardens, prairie, and trails along Little Lake. Pedestrian walkways connect us throughout the campus while vehicles park on the periphery.
